Killer T - Inzwai Kuchema Mambo Album Review

Reviewing a Killer T project is quite challenging, he has for years now stuck with one style and nearly all the stuff he releases sound the same, same structure, same vibe.

Tasked myself to find out why he has found so much success despite his music sounding the same. One major finding is that the message in his music is spot on, he tackles topics that many are already going through, this is his strongest attribute. Also most of the times Killer T is crying about something , it's now sort of a signature of his, now given how millions of Zimbos are always stressed and crying about life, Killer T's music speaks to many, it ends up feeling as if he is singing on behalf of many. He has his own fusion of dancehall which resonates with many.

Its been some time since I did a review of a project from Killer T. Today will be sharing with you my views and thoughts on the album.

As usual will be doing a track by track review.

1. Tsiurikawo

On this track Killer T is singing from the perspective of a parent who is telling their kid to listen to advice. The parent has seen a lot and can part knowledge onto the kid if they listen. Production is good, typical of a Killer T arrangement but good nonetheless.

2. Usipo

Chairman is on a love tip on this track, saying I can't survive without you, when you're not there life is hard. Production is again good and typical of a Killer T Song

3. Hakete

The guitar riff is a good addition, gives the track a different feel, Oskid did a solid job on the production on this one. It's definitely a contender for that inevitable hit track from a Killer T project.

4. Hosanna

Oskid again continues to showcase his talent on the production of this one. Oskid is a master at manipulating and controlling the track with heavy bouncy bass lines. Such a method has already proven very successful when working with Killer T on tracks such Itai Ndione and Bvunza Tinzwe, it again works here. Killer T was equally good on the vocals, he shines the most on such tracks, those with a Mapostori feel.

5. Ndichazofarawo

Killer T delivers a current/future a celebration song for many. Life has been and is still very tough for many, the only hope is they will get to enjoy life one day when they get successful or reach some level of success. Production is done well, Tynash did a solid job, love the saxophone. The structure definitely falls into the typical Killer T structure but the message just make everything better.

6. Ukandiudza

Chairman is on this track singing about the pain of being lied to in a relationship, how one makes you believe that you are the world to them and then break your heart. Production is well done, Cymplex did a solid job on the production. Killer T was solid also on the vocals.

7. Mupe Mari

Killer T continues on the relationship tip and on this track he is giving advice to men in relationships. He is saying if you want to stay in a happy relationship give your girl cash, attention & communicate. This is a track most ladies are gonna love. Production is okay.

8. Inzwai Kuchema Mambo

Killer T goes reggae on this prayer for orphans. He is begging the Lord to hear the cry of the Orphans. He acknowledges that the Lord is the Almighty hence he knows the Lord can change the situation of orphans.

9. Hurombwa

On this track The Chairman is talking about a situation where a child when grown up start accusing their mother of witchcraft, despite all the sacrifices the mother has made for the children. The mother is now late and she passed away with the pain of being accused of being a witchcraft by her children. Now the children have to appease their mothers spirit as they are now under a curse.

10. Character

Killer T borrowed from the classic similar titled Prince Tendai's song for the chorus. Production is done well, it's good seeing current artists take inspiration from the past icons.

11. Zvekunditaura

On this track the Chairman is saying stop talking about me behind my back, it's also actually marketing my name when you think you're pulling me down. Production is again typical and okay.

12. Hatisisina

Chairman is saying we no longer have feelings for each other to his partner, they dated and enjoyed but now there are no more feelings between them. Production is again typical but okay.

13. Hukama

Killer T in this track is singing unto the Lord saying he is now ready to marry and welcome another family into his life. He is ready kuvaka Hukama. Production is done well, arrangement as usual is typical.

14. Zvandinofunga

On this track the Chairman is saying only the Lord knows what I think, my inner desires and prayers. This track on summary is the popular statement "Only God Knows". Production is done well, Killer T was good on the vocals.

15. Ndanyarara

Killer T goes on a reggae tip again on this this track. He assumed the role of a parent advising their child to keep good care of themself, they must not revert to evil ways but always remain on the road of truth despite how hard life may get.

16. Ticharipinda Denga

On this track Killer T is asking the Lord whether we will enter his Kingdom. Production is again the typical Killer T sound and structure. You get the feeling that you ve heard this track before.

Stream The Album: Inzwai Kuchema Mambo

So ya that's it for Inzwai Kuchema Mambo by Killer T and the usual formula continues. This album sounds excatly as his last 4 or 5 projects but again laced with some well written songs that ensures the project does not become dull but bring some magic.

Production is well done, Killer T has a defined sound he follows, has been following for some time and it seems all the producers he work with also have the template. It's a good thing that Chairman knows his strengths and plays to them but eish!!. Instrumental arrangements are typical of Killer T, but regardless they still sound good, they do a great job complementing the vocals.

Still on the vocal arrangements, they are again similar to the arrangements on his past 4-5 albums. Killer T has settled into this groove and he is not leaving it anytime soon, to his defence its working for him he became an icon with this vocal structure and I don't see him changing anytime soon.

To complete his unique style Killer T cements it with some relatable themes and great songwriting skills. The themes take center stage when it comes to Killer T's music, this is what ensures his music despite sounding the same seems to always excel. On this album he tackled some solid themes, from taking the perspective of a parent giving advice to their child on Tsiurikawo & Ndanyarara, to some personal cries, then some love & relationship tracks. He tackles these topics in a way that appeals all across the age ranges, this is definitely a super skill of his.

In conclusion the formula again works, Killer T is definitely a master at this sound and style, there is no bad song on this album, most tracks are just okay to good but no bad song, meaning you can actually listen to the whole album. Then we get tracks such as Ndichazofarawo & Ukanditi which are fantastic and these will carry the album.

My Overall Rating: 7/10
