AWA Khiwe - Africa Woman Arise Album Review

Image
AWA Khiwe is a breath of fresh air in the hip hop/rap scene, she offers a different sound. These days it seems every female rapper is a copycat of Nicki Minaj, AWA is going in a different way, more in touch with her culture, more proud of the African Queen that she is and is not trying to look like a sex doll. She proudly celebrates her Ndebele roots with her art.   Ngeke Bekimele was the first track I heard from her and she made sure that first impression counted, she was amazing on that track, true definition of beast mode from first bar to last. Its one of those tracks that make you stop and ask " Who is this??". That track made many artists (even the male rappers) stop and listen, she can definitely body a lot of them in a rap battle. She followed it up with Rap Gandaganda where she basically crowns herself the Queen and fittingly so, I don't see any other female rapper in Zim matching her or even coming close.  This new project is her first full body project and wa...

Bling 4 - Hosanna Album Review

Image
Bling 4 has been among the top 4 artists in the hip hop scene for years now. He has cultivated a loyal following throughout this period an is one of the less divisive figures in the genre. Not much into drama and hogging the limelight whilst delivering a constant flow of good songs, his brand is solid and he garners a lot of respect from fans and even his peers.  After years of dropping singles Bing has decided to drop a full feature project and it will be interesting to hear how he would go about that. Some artists are excellent at singles and fail when it comes to albums, is Bling part of those or he can carry his solid run onto the album. Also what sound are we getting on the album, Bling 4 became popular by using the chilled emotional slow type of rapping, which sometimes gets monotonous but has managed to keep the fans interested till now so whether that will change or not, we'll see. The album has finally dropped and after some time listening will be sharing with you my views...

From Secular to Gospel Music.

Image
There has been a rise in artists who have switched from making secular music to gospel music in these past few years, its actually a cool move to do right now, releasing a gospel track also seems to be the in thing as we are seeing artists from various genres doing so. Why is that?? do artists think Gospel music is easy to make, are they taking advantage of the lack of criticism in the genre ( everyone praises and worships in their own way after all so you cant judge my way ) or they have truly found the light as some say.!!?? Today have decided to dive deeper on this and try to understand the reasons and also assess the impacts such a move has for the artists. Over the past 5 years we have seen artists such as Alexio Kawara, Baba Harare and Bryan K publicly stating they have now moved to gospel music. These three will provide a perfect case study as they are all different artists all at different stages in their careers and all have experienced different levels of popularity and succe...
